Henry Bessemer
Charlton, Anglaterra, 19 gener 1813-Londres 15 març 1898) fou un enginyer, fonedor de tipus d'impremta, pioner de la siderúrgia moderna, i inventor del procés de refinat d'acer que porta el seu nom.
Des de la seva infantesa va mostrar gran capacitat de treball i inventiva. Va fer la seva fortuna mitjançant una fórmula secreta per fabricar "pols d'or", una purpurina a base de pols de llautó i pintura que va enviarr al mercat Doro mitjana a Anglatera. Durant la guerra de Crimea va inventar un projectil d'artilleria molt eficaç, però els tècnics militars van informar que els canons de ferro fos de l'època no eren capaços de resistir la força d'aquest nou projectil
